Yummy Goat Milk.

My goat Holly is milking around 7 pounds this year. She is a 2nd freshner born and raised here on our place. She is a LaMancha cross. She is daughter to Candy who was my first milk goat bought in '08.

She does have small teats and is hard to milk. uggg. Seems to take forever to get 7 plus pounds of of her. That equal to about 3/4 gallon. And this is just one time a day. Her twin bucks are on her during the day.

Savannah

Valentine (Vea) had her babies on Saturday, March 5th. She was due March 12 by our calculations.

The first baby was this one in the picture. She weighed in at 5 pounds 3 ounces. Her twin brother was 7 pounds.

We pulled the doeling to bottle feed since Vea has CAE. I am wishing we would have pulled the boy too but just wasn't thinking at the time.

J named her Savannah. So far this year we have "S" names. I will have to get some more pictures of the other babies. I have some but they aren't really that good.

Savannah is the start of our mini herd. Her mama is Purebred LaMancha and her daddy is a Nigerian Dwarf. Savannah is considered a 1st Gereration MiniMancha.

Jonathan showed Valentine at the 20011 Local Stockshow.

He was the only one showing Dairy so he won 1st place. He got $20.

At the County Livestock show he got 3rd out of 4 goats. We were happy. He got $10 there.

Alfalfa hay

In learning about goats, I am learning that alfalfa hay is most important. It provides calcium for pregnant does. They need calcium to develop healthy kids and still maintain good health.

Alfalfa pellets work too but hay is best. I have been using both.

My new kids

Friday night I went to bed about 10pm and then heard bawling coming from the goat shed. Marina was in labor. I got out there and called Deb. She and Gary came and we delivered 3 cute kids. In front is Moose. He was the biggest. In the middle is the first born, Christa. And last but not least, is Caboose also a doe. She was born last and born breech. The birth of these babies was a breeze.

Then Monday, on her due date. Holly decided it was her turn. She delived two of the cutest twins does. The spotted one I called Splash because it looks as though someone took a paint brush and splashed her. Then we decided to call the first born, Splish. It WAS a raining day. Seems to fit. "Splish, Splash I was taking a bath...."

I guess that is pretty good.. Out of my 3 goats that kidded this season, Cocoa had twin bucks, Marina, 2 does, one buck, and then Holly gave me 2 does. 4 Does, 3 bucks. Yeah.

Now till April or May when Deb's kid. She has two we are waiting on now.

snow and goats due

It is snowing here today and I have goats due any day now. They to tend to go on the worst day. LOL. At least we have a good shelter now. I would go take pictures but it is just too cold.
Ok, changed my mind. Ran out and took this quick picture. This is our new hoop house.

Don't even ask. :)

Ok, don't ever go look at goats if you don't need any!! Take my advice. LOL.
Isn't she a doll. She was born on Valentines Day. My son is calling her Valentines but I just call her Vea.
We disbudded her yesterday. She was 4 days old. She was a twin and her brother had pretty large horns. They grow so fast on bucks.
Her color is like grey, speckeled grey. Her eyes are grey too. I think she is lovely.
